Furnal Equinox COVID-19 Information and Policies

Last updated: September 17, 2021

We’ve put together a lot of information for you about how COVID-19 issues will affect our plans for the convention. We will be providing information on those changes as they happen, so be sure to follow our social media
announcement for updates.

Our plan for FE 2022

We plan to have an in-person convention in March 2022. You can find the exact dates on our homepage.
Registration for the in-person FE 2022 convention is now open on our Registration page.

  • We  will also have a virtual event as part of Furnal Equinox 2022 — more details will be announced at a later date
  • Existing registrations for FE 2020 who have not received coupons/refunds will be rolled over to the 2022 event. We will be sending out information with instructions for our new registration page soon.
  • Hotel bookings will open in October. A separate block will be reserved for Dealers, and they will be contacted in the coming weeks with more information.
  • We are not limiting attendance for the event at this time.
  • All attendees will need to agree to our new policies, including those for COVID, in order to complete their registration. This will appear as a mandatory checkbox on the registration form.
  • In the event of any changes, we will provide updates through our social media channels and on our website. We will provide as much notice as possible.

Convention Policies

In order to keep our attendees as healthy and safe as possible, our event will have the following policies in place:

Attendees must be fully vaccinated prior to attending the convention, no exceptions

Proof of your full vaccination (showing all required doses, and the final dose received on or before March 3rd, 2022) will need to be submitted prior to receiving your badge – see our FAQ at the bottom on what proof is accepted. No exceptions will be made.

Accepted vaccines per the Government of Canada are:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
  • Moderna (mRNA-1273)
  • AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222)
  • Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S)

Masks are required in all public spaces including while in fursuit, no exception

Regardless of government mandates at the time of the event, masks will be required in the convention space.
No exceptions will be made.

Capacity limits will be enforced

We will be making adjustments to convention areas to follow social distancing guidelines. This may include allowing fewer people in event rooms, washroom facilities, elevators, and lounge areas.

Fursuit lounges will be available

The exact setup (i.e. fans, cooling stations) will be determined closer to the event date, based on advice from government health units. Face masks must still be worn in the lounge except when actively drinking water.

Attendees with COVID-19 symptoms or positive test results at the convention
must contact us

If you develop COVID symptoms at the convention, have a positive COVID test result, or you are informed that you have come into contact with someone diagnosed with COVID, you must contact us immediately at covid@furnalequinox.com or 1-855-46FURRY (1-855-463-8779).

Please quarantine in your hotel room, or if you do not have a room at the hotel, return to your home with as little contact with others as possible, or follow your quarantine plan. All roommates and other close contacts in attendance with you must also quarantine.

How to prepare for 2022

Get vaccinated

In many countries, vaccinations are becoming widely available to the public. We are requiring all attendees to be fully vaccinated before attending the convention. The latest you should be fully vaccinated by is March 3rd, 2022.

Practice wearing a mask

Practice properly wearing over your mouth and nose and breathing with a mask on, as you will be required to wear a mask when in public spaces of the event. Fursuiters should practice wearing a mask under their head.

Ensure that your mask is either medical grade or meets Ontario’s standards for non-medical masks.

Bring extra sanitation supplies

While Furnal Equinox and the Westin Harbour Castle will provide public sanitation supplies (such as hand sanitizer), we encourage you to bring your own for personal use.

Practice socially distant etiquette

While furries love to gather up close, we need to maintain a safe distance of at least 2 meters apart when socializing, and always ask for consent before any close contact or reduced distance.

Research travel requirements from abroad

If you’re travelling from outside Canada, make sure you prepare for all checks and procedures that you need to follow while travelling. Learn more about Canada’s requirements for entry

Frequent Asked Questions

General

What’s the likelihood of COVID-19 at FE 2022?

While we are planning to prevent spread as much as we can, we aren’t able to guarantee that Furnal Equinox 2022 will be 100% COVID-free. There are many factors outside our control. That’s why we’re relying on every attendee to do their part to follow all of our policies so we can have a successful convention while staying safe.

How often can we expect policies and guidelines to change?

We will be updating all content and information regarding COVID-19 policies and guidelines when changes are made, whether they come from our team or government updates. We’ll be updating this page as well as sending out messages through email and social media channels.

What else is Furnal Equinox doing to minimize the risk of COVID-19?

We will be implementing additional sanitation and preventative measures in high-traffic and high-contact areas, including areas such as Registration, Dealers Den, Lounge, and panel rooms. We will be working closely with our venue to clean and refresh all rooms and spaces on a frequent basis.

In the event FE 2022 is postponed/cancelled again, what will happen?

We hope we won’t need to, but in the event the 2022 in-person event doesn’t happen, we will continue to roll over registrations and provide support and instructions on how to change or cancel other bookings if necessary.

Registration

What does this mean if I rolled over my registration from 2020?

Your registration will still be applied to Furnal Equinox 2022. All attendees with roll over registrations will receive an additional email with instructions to register for FE 2022. If your situation has changed and you cannot attend the 2022 event, please let us know at registration@furnalequinox.com.

I cannot/do not feel comfortable attending FE 2022, can I request a refund on my registration?

We will be processing refund requests for FE 2022 up until March 3rd, 2022. After that date, we will only offer rollovers. In the event of a cancellation, registrations not refunded before that date will be rolled over to 2023.

Are children under 12 who might not be eligible for the vaccine/mask policy able to attend?

We are not allowing attendees under the age of 12 to attend our 2022 in-person convention at this time. Children aged 12-17 will still be allowed to attend with a parent/guardian and all applicable permission forms, including their proof of vaccination. We will watch vaccination eligibility requirements and update our policies as needed.

Vaccines & Masks

What kind of “proof” is needed for vaccinations?

We will require a readable digital or physical copy that can be shown to us upon request at the convention.

The proof of vaccination must be from a legitimate government agency (i.e. provincial health unit, CDC card, government-approved agency), and must include:

  1. Your legal name
  2. Date(s) of vaccination
  3. Type(s) of vaccination

For our Canadian attendees, we recommend investigating the digital certificate options for your province, as they will speed up the process of verification.

I do not wish to be fully vaccinated or wear a mask while in convention or public spaces, can I still attend?

If you choose not to be vaccinated or follow the mandatory mask policy, you will not be able to participate this year. Our top priority is to make sure our attendees are as safe as possible while enjoying our convention. Any person that tries to sneak into, circumvent, or threaten their way into our convention or venue will be permanently banned and subject to further charges as applicable by law.

For medical reasons, I cannot wear a mask and/or get the vaccine. How can I submit a request for a medical exemption?

We are not allowing vaccine or mask exemptions.

We realize this limits our attendees who are unable to wear masks and/or take the vaccine, however we are particularly interested in attendee safety. We recommend attending our virtual events and participating remotely.

We hope that circumstances will improve so that we can make exceptions for future events, and welcome back those who will otherwise be left out this year.

Do I need to bring a negative COVID-19 test result to the convention to attend?

We will only require a proof of vaccination. If you feel even slightly sick before the convention, get tested for COVID-19 to make sure you’re in the clear. If you are travelling from outside Canada, you will need to show proof of a negative test to enter the country. Please see the government of Canada website for details.

How will Furnal Equinox protect my personal information/privacy when submitting legally-identifying information?

We will only retain information for the duration of the event or as long as legally required. All personal information will be secured and stored in accordance with all privacy laws and regulations, Learn more about our privacy policy here.
