Accessibility at Furnal Equinox

Furnal Equinox wants everyone to be able to enjoy the convention. Our Accessibility team is made up of volunteers who work with attendees and the Sheraton Centre Toronto to make that happen.

Questions? Contact us at access@furnalequinox.com.

Start here: check the accessibility box when you register.

On the registration form, under Accessibility, check the box that says “I would like more information about accessibility assistance at the convention.” A member of our Accessibility team will email you within two weeks and send you the Accessibility Support Survey. When you complete it, we’ll mark your badge with an accessibility sticker. The sticker gives you priority in lines and elevator usage, and helps our team recognize you if you need extra support. The survey is also how you request an accessible hotel room, a support person, or service animal accommodations.

If it’s less than two weeks before the convention, don’t worry. Visit Accessibility Services after checking in at Registration.

Do I have to complete the survey before I arrive?

No. We encourage you to complete it in advance so we can prepare for the smoothest possible experience, but we will accommodate you at the convention even if you haven’t. You do not need to visit Accessibility Services before receiving accommodations at Registration. After you receive your registration badge, head to Accessibility Services to learn more about our accessibility accommodations.

I’m registered but forgot to check the box. What do I do?

Email us at Access@furnalequinox.com, or visit Accessibility Services after you check in at Registration.

What accessibility supports are available?
  • Sensory rooms, open 8 AM to 2 AM and marked on the convention map
  • Priority line access to the Dealers’ Den and major events, such as the Main Stage
  • Priority elevator usage
  • Accessible hotel rooms, for mobility device users and for those who need larger entryways or accessible washrooms
  • Complimentary support person registration
  • Accessibility Services on the registration concourse level for questions and on-site support
  • More to come as we continue to grow the program
Do I need documentation?
No. We don’t require documentation to receive an accessibility sticker.
Where are the sensory rooms, and what’s in them?

Our sensory rooms are marked on the convention map and are open from 8 AM to 2 AM. They offer comfortable seating, low lighting, and a variety of sensory items, including coloring books, ear muffs, noise-canceling ear muffs, ear plugs, and pillows and sheets for building forts.

How do I get an accessible hotel room?

The convention has received a limited number of accessible rooms from the hotel. When you complete the survey, we’ll send you the booking link for them. Please don’t share the link. If you run into any difficulty, we’ll do our best to connect you with the hotel to find solutions.

Can I bring a service animal?

Yes. Service animals are welcome. We encourage you to complete the survey in advance so we can plan, but you will be accommodated at the convention even if you don’t. The survey is not a review or approval process. We may ask two questions: whether the animal is a service animal, and what tasks it is trained to perform. There is no way to “fail” registering your service animal.

Can I bring a support person?

Yes. Support persons are welcome, and their registration is complimentary. Complete the survey and select “I need a support person,” or let us know at Accessibility Services when you arrive. You’re welcome to tell us how your support person helps you so we can offer additional accommodations on top of their support. For example, if they help you see, we can also offer front-row seating at events.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, the Sheraton Centre Toronto is accessible, but we know that meeting minimum accessibility requirements doesn’t work for everyone, so we want you to know about a few limitations:

  • Mezzanine level: Access is by ramp, but the ramp may not accommodate a large mobility device, such as a scooter. We’re researching other options and haven’t found an alternative yet.
  • Elevators: One elevator tower doesn’t have direct access to some levels of the hotel, so if you rely on elevators you may need to switch between one or two elevators to reach certain levels.
  • Washrooms: The hotel has plenty of washrooms, including accessible washrooms on several levels.

If you have concerns about getting around, please tell us in the survey or email us so we can help you plan.

What if I need help during the convention?

Visit Accessibility Services on the registration concourse level. Hours will be announced closer to the convention. You can also reach us any time at Access@furnalequinox.com.

What if I need an accommodation that isn’t listed here?

Contact us at Access@furnalequinox.com or visit Accessibility Services. We have a duty to accommodate, and we’ll work with you to meet your needs to the best of our ability.

How do I report a barrier or share feedback?
